Audio: HockeeNight and Chris Block talk Blackhawks moves and preview the season

By Chris Block

Sunday night, I joined Krista, C.T. and “Forklift” from HockeeNight.com for our annual Blackhawks’ season preview “PuckCast.”

Of course, with the news coming down over the weekend, we spent considerable time breaking down the Nick Leddy trade as well as the controversial signing of Dan Carcillo.  We also discussed Teuvo Teravainen, the formulation of the Blackhawks’ roster, Brad Richards already being demoted from off the 2nd line, prospects, the Manitoba Two-Banger and much much more.

Podcast news and updates; Fantasy Poolies, Audio talking Richards, Clendening, Dahlbeck, Teuvo, Hayes and more

By Chris Block

Just a few pieces of site business to start with here today…

TTMI Fantasy Hockey openings

–First, I do want to mention that we are doing another season of Fantasy Hockey that you can be apart of.

A few spots remain available for our leagues, and drafts are Tuesday night, so you don’t have much time to get in. Email me at ChrisBlock@TheThirdManIn.com if you want in.

The draft will be held live, online on Monday night. Though, if you can’t join in for the live draft the Yahoo servers will auto pick your team for you. You can also pre-rank all NHL players prior to the draft so you have a better chance of getting the players you want if you can’t draft live.

Puck Chatter Radio

Also, Monday night – the return of PuckChatter~Radio.  We have a lot to discuss.

Al Cimaglia and I will be live at 7:30pm central at BlogTalkRadio.com/TheThirdManIn.

If you can’t listen in live, the show will be available for download almost immediately following the show at that same link, here on this web site and also on Itunes. Read more »

Audio: An hour of post NHL draft and Blackhawks trade talk

By Chris Block

Sunday afternoon I was a guest again on Bill Swierski’s Sports Talk Chicago.

We analyzed the Blackhawks draft, the Patrick Sharp trade rumors – the who, what and why…. why the Ryan Kesler talks broke down, the ‘Hawks salary cap situation, players Stan still may move, the Kevin Hayes saga and impact of the impending contract extensions for franchise players Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.

I join the show at about the 4:30 mark.

I was a guest on Shawn Hopman’s podcast a few weeks back to digest the fallout from the Blackhawks loss to the Kings as well as previewing the off season moves.  You also can listen to that podcast here.  On that episode I am on from about 5:30 to the 1 hour 21 minute mark.

–I will be doing a Puck Chatter Radio some time this week as well.  Fingers crossed.  The last one we did was such an audio disaster that it was almost immediately deleted.  I was unaware of the audio problems as we recorded.  And, as it turned out, it was all my fault as far as the issues were entirely on my end.  But I think I am over that experience now, so we can go forth and take Puck Chatter out of time out.

**As some have noted to me already, there are some occasional quick snippets where the audio skips or hiccups.  I am fairly certain this is an ethernet chord issue (as in, it wasn’t plugged in) and we’ll have it fixed for the next show… which, if all goes well, will be next week.

PuckChatter~Radio, e.138, Tis the Season

By Chris Block

A Saturday matinee edition of TheThirdManIn.com’s ~ PuckChatter~Radio dropped today.

On the show, we discussed the finality and fallout from the end of the Kyle Beach era, Brandon Pirri’s demotion back to the Rockford IceHogs, the future of Nikolai Khabibulin in an Indian head sweater and a few other Blackhawks related items.

The show typically veered off the tracks as well in various off-topic stories including the “only” two things Block hates these days, his dog freezing to the ice in the frigid Chicago weather and the recent California expedition.  Also, Block tries, and fails to identify common hand tools and his father’s response to it, and our “Pud of the week” award is dealt out as well.

After being sat out four consecutive Rockford IceHogs games due to what head coach Ted Dent called “conduct” violations, Chicago Blackhawks 2008 first-round draft pick Kyle Beach returned to the lineup on Saturday night in grand fashion.

Not only did Beach register the first hat-trick of his 175-game professional career, but he also contributed in every special teams situation in leading the IceHogs to a much-needed 4-3 victory over their rival Chicago Wolves after Rockford suffered a 7-1 shellacking in Rosemont the previous night.

Following Saturday night’s game, we had an opportunity to sit down for an exclusive one-on-one interview with the often beleaguered former 1st round draft pick. Read more »
