The Chicago Blackhawks delivered a response to a physical Minnesota Wild team Tuesday night, sucking the energy out of the Xcel Energy Center with a 3-0 win. Corey Crawford slammed the door on the Wild as he handled all 25 shots he saw on the night.
Chicago takes a 3-1 series lead in its Western Conference quarterfinal and was paced by another pair of goals by Patrick Sharp. The penalty kill came up large in denying the Wild six times throughout the evening. Read more

It took 73 minutes and eight seconds, but the Chicago Blackhawks prevailed 2-1 in Game 1 of their Western Conference quarterfinal matchup with the Minnesota Wild. The Blackhawks third line came up large in setting up Bryan Bickell’s game winner that gives Chicago a 1-0 lead in the series.
The Wild was set on their heels in the warm-up, with starting goalie Niklas Backstrom suffering a lower body injury. Josh Harding got the call to face Chicago after missing much of the regular season.
Despite facing a goalie that had just five appearances all season, Chicago did not put much in the way of pressure on Harding in the opening minutes. The first real scoring chance came when Jason Zucker came up the left side and took the puck hard to the net. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks swept the season series from the Dallas Stars Monday night at the United Center. Dallas came in the winners of five consecutive contests but was no match for a Blackhawks squad that parlayed a big third period into a 5-2 victory.
The win is Chicago’s sixth in a row and puts them one win from locking up home ice in the Western Conference. Three points from Marian Hossa and an active night by the third line, led by Andrew Shaw, paced the Blackhawks effort.
Brandon Saad took a nice feed from Jonathan Toews in the first minute of action. However, he could not settle the puck and the attempt was off the mark. The Hawks settled into the Dallas zone for much of the opening minutes. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks nearly let a two-goal advantage go for naught Monday night against the Nashville Predators. It took a shootout goal in the fifth round by defenseman Michal Roszival, but the ‘Hawks avoided the tag of April Fools with a 3-2 shootout victory.
The Blackhawks spent most of the first half of the opening period on the attack in the Nashville zone. Jonathan Toews had a couple of opportunities early, as did Nick Leddy off a feed from Patrick Kane.
Andrew Shaw had the puck on his stick in the ninth minute but couldn’t get off a decent shot. Dave Bolland centered Kane at the 10:45 mark for a nice scoring chance but Pekka Rinne stopped the attempt. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks got goals from two defensemen Tuesday night with some help from Patrick Kane. Ray Emery and the defense took care of the rest as the ‘Hawks snapped back from Monday’s loss, defeating the Calgary Flames 2-0.
The Blackhawks had an early opportunity forty seconds in when Niklas Hjalmarsson held a puck in the Calgary zone. Patrick Kane centered to Dave Bolland, but the Rat couldn’t evaluate the puck past Mikka Kiprusof. Bolland took a high stick from Jerome Iginla at the 2:11 mark to set up the first power play of the night. Kane made a nice move late but Viktor Stalberg couldn’t provide the finish thanks to Chris Butler’s skate.
The first goal belonged to Chicago on a play started when Kane attempted to center to Bolland again in the eighth minute. The puck eluded Bolland but was retrieved by Nick Leddy at the left circle. Leddy’s shot glanced off of the left pad of Kiprusoff and into the goal to make it 1-0 7:09 into the first. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks continued to roll on the road Monday night, coming away with a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Chicago prevailed despite losing Marian Hossa to an upper body injury early in the game and Brent Seabrook to an apparent benching by coach Joel Quenneville during the second period.
The Blackhawks got off to a fast start, with Jimmy Hayes benefitting from a strong fore check by Dave Bolland to pot his first goal with the ‘Hawks this season. Jan Hejda lost the puck to Patrick Kane, who fired to Hayes in front of the net. Hayes went to the backhand and slid home the game’s first goal at the 3:47 mark.
Less than a minute later, Bryan Bickell took a hit from Erik Johnson but was able to tip the puck out of the Chicago zone. Viktor Stalberg went up the left side and found Andrew Shaw to his right. Shaw went high on Semyon Varlamov and gave the Blackhawks a 2-0 with less than five minutes into the contest. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks spotted their opponents from Edmonton a four-goal lead in the first period before coming out to make a game of it. Unfortunately, the ‘Hawks could not overcome a pathetic start and lost their second game in a row 6-5 to the Oilers.
The game was dominated by Edmonton throughout the opening period. Niklas Hjalmarsson committed an early turnover in his zone that was gathered in by Ales Hemsky, but Hjalmarsson recovered nicely to prevent any damage. Damage was coming, however, as the Oilers scored twice in the third minute.
The first goal came when Mike Brown received a puck that was held in the Chicago zone and flung it from a few feet inside the blue line. The shot snaked past Ray Emery’s left pad and in at the 2:24 mark. A few seconds later, Sam Gagner completed a play that saw Nail Yakupov thread a pass to Magnus Paajarvi, who directed the puck to the doorstep. Gagner knocked in the pass to give his team a two-goal advantage. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks got a pair of goals from Bryan Bickell and a three-point night from Brandon Saad as the home team won a franchise-record tenth straight contest Tuesday night, a 5-3 decision over the Minnesota Wild.
On a night honoring Marian Hossa, the ‘Hawks used four unanswered goals in a six-minute span in the first period to avenge one of their three losses on the 2013 season. Chicago wins their 20th game and have now earned 43 of a possible 46 points.
In his first shift back from an upper body injury, Dave Bolland earned a high sticking penalty when his blade caught Torrey Mitchell in the face. Jonathan Toews had a breakaway chance even after losing his stick. Thanks to some NASCAR-like efficiency from the bench, Toews took a pass from Hossa but was turned away by Backstrom. The Chicago Blackhawks returned to the United Center Tuesday to take on the team directly below them in the Western Conference standings, the Anaheim Ducks. The ‘Hawks led after two periods, but lost the lead late and suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to begin a seven-game home stand.
Viktor Fasth won his sixth straight start this season, stopping 28 of the 30 shots managed by the Blackhawks.
In the opening period, Chicago had a nice chance created by Brandon Saad, who won a battle for the puck, took it into the Ducks zone and passed to Jonathan Toews. Toews got behind the net and set up Saad in front of the net, but Fasth stopped the attempt. Read more

The Chicago Blackhawks opened their home schedule in fine fashion Tuesday night, treating the United Center crowd to a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Corey Crawford was able to out duel Brian Elliot to give the Blackhawks their third win of the season in as many games.
The Blackhawks dominated most of the first period, testing Elliot several times in the opening minutes. Patrick Kane, Bryan Bickell and Brandon Bollig all had open looks on odd man rushes but were turned away by the St. Louis goalie.
Elliot held fast until the 7:20 mark, when Chicago managed a three-man rush to the net with no opposition by the Blues. Nick Leddy started the play by gaining possession of the puck and finding Kane in the neutral zone. Kane brought the puck up the left side, played catch with Patrick Sharp and came across the crease. One backhand later, Kane had his second goal of the season and the ‘Hawks led 1-0. Read more
