TTMI~Radio, e.89 – “‘Hog Changes” w/ Mike Peck, voice of the Rockford IceHogs

On this edition of TTMI~Radio I’m joined by Mike Peck, the voice of the Rockford IceHogs.

Mike returns to help us preview the 2011-12 IceHogs’ season by examining the coaching change, new bench boss Ted Dent and the AHL squad’s roster turnover.  We also get Mike’s scouting report on Brandon Segal, who spent the last half of the 2004-05 season in Rockford while a member of the Nashville Predators’ organization.

We also take a look at important players up front and on the defense this year in the wake of key losses offensively as well in experience and leadership.  Ben Smith, Joe Lavin, Jimmy Hayes and Jeremy Morin are discussed as well.  We also get an update on rink refurbishments currently going on at the Beemo Center.

TTMI~Radio, e.87, Sixty-five minutes Talkin’ Blackhawks with Al Cimaglia

A special-express caffeine-fueled edition of TTMI~Radio this week.  Only thirteen more of these to go now….

Al Cimaglia of Sirius/XM Home Ice and HockeyIndependent.com joined for sixty-five minutes of Hawk Talk.  We did this show two hours earlier and quicker than usual since I had to be out the door for a fantasy football draft tonight.  Great show though, covering a bevy of topics.

After running down all the recent pertinent news, Al and I listen to comments Patrick Kane made to a Toronto radio station last week and give our take on the Hawks’ superstar right winger’s new destination date of recovery.

We also take a look at controversial comments recently made by Mike Cammalleri and the now-retired Dave Scatchard.  Is the NHL’s current concussion care policy good enough? Should their be greater concerns, as Cammalleri hints, at the artificial enhancements players are using to compete and endure the NHL grind and is the current drug testing policy doing the job?

Also, we analyze Marcus Kruger‘s place on this year’s Blackhawks; Jimmy Hayes given the opportunity to train in Lugano over a recent 1st round pick; IceHogs’ roster concerns; what we would have paid Chris Campoli to stay and answers to emails on why two of the greatest goaltenders of all-time, Dominik Hasek and Ed Belfour, were sent packing by Chicago in the early to mid-90s.

All this and probably more I’m forgetting.

TTMI~Radio, e.86, Sunshine SuperStan, Parts 1&2

This one…..

First, let’s apologize to our live streamers who thought we were going on live at 7 central tonight.  Obviously, that didn’t happen.  This is another reason why I have to get off BTR.  Our friend, one-time writer and regular podcast guest Dieter Kurtenbach is now a sports reporter at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.  A major development in a story Dieter is covering, the overheating death of a high school football player, came down just before we were about to go live.  So we pushed the show back an hour.  Due to the news story, Dieter couldn’t join us until 9:15, or 75 minutes into the show.  The way BTR works, because I had already gone live, there was no turning back or pausing until Dieter was available.

So the first part of the show is just me flying solo.  I know, I’d rather not listen to it either.  I gave the run down on the Ray Emery training camp invite, IceHogs changes, Kyle Beach’s next step, Campoli vs Lepisto and probably a list of other topics I can’t recall at the moment.

Part two is my hour-long talk with Dieter Kurtenbach on his questions regarding Stan Bowman’s contradictory maneuverings, Patrick Kane’s story, the Frolik, Campoli and Montador contracts or non-contract, Ben Smith’s future and much more.  We also discuss the buzz in South Florida about the Panthers, a team Dieter is now covering for the Sun-Sentinel.

TTMI~Radio: Mike Peck and Al Cimaglia join to recap IceHogs, Blackhawks in 2010-11

TheThirdManIn~Radio returned last night as did a couple of our more popular guests.

Mike Peck, the play-by-play voice of the Rockford IceHogs joined us for the first half hour to recap the IceHogs’ season.  Peck sees the IceHogs more than just about anyone not a coach of the team and discussed the progress of Kyle Beach, Brandon Pirri, Shawn Lalonde, Rob Klinkhammer, Igor Makarov, Brian Connelly and more.  We also got his early observations of the Hawks’ next crop of prospects Philippe Paradis, David Gilbert and Jimmy Hayes and which veteran defenseman, in his mind, has the greater odds of returning to Rockford.

Al Cimaglia of Sirius/XM Radio and HockeyIndependent.com was along for the Peck discussion as well.  We then moved on to talk Hawks-Canucks fallout; whether the series proved the Hawks were anything more than what they showed for the previous 82 games and a few players who are very unlikely to return next season.  Al and I also went further into explaining why the Hawks top players, like Duncan Keith, cannot be relied on so mightily again next season.  We also debate if the Hawks should re-sign Troy Brouwer, who Stan Bowman seems to love and who he didn’t sound too enthused about last week when the name was brought up.

For the final twenty minutes or so, Superstar and go more in-depth into Duncan Keith’s comments and season confessional post-Game 5; why he shouldn’t have said what he did and the misguided comparisons some have drawn.

It’s a John Scott free podcast.  A solid 90 minutes.  Hope you enjoy.  Thanks to everyone as always for listening.

Simulcast Playoff Preview with Hockeenight dot com

In place of our weekly TTMI~Radio show this week, we did a simulcast with CT and the “Forklift” on their weekly Hockeenight PuckCast.

You can listen to the show here or over on their web site.

Those of you who download the mp3 file can right-click here.   The show is two hours long so its a rather large file this time around.

Dieter Kurtenbach joined the fray as well.  We all gave our first-round predictions; discussed Alain Vigneault’s brain, Ben Smith’s game, Bryan Bickell’s aspirations to be the best $525,000 perimeter player in the game, an entire line of Frolik’s, Tomas Kopecky’s next contract, Electric Football, the Rockford IceHogs, sports writers ending sentences with exclamation points, Forklift’s bold prediction, Blackhawk Hope, keys to the series, Herb Abrams, the worst upcoming crop of 1,000 game players you could ever imagine, the “people’s prospect”, Micah Hoffpauir, USA Network drama, chicken nuggets in business suits and so much more.

It was a fun time as always with the Hockeenight guys.  Thanks to them as always for sharing their time with us.  Check out their show each and every week for a unique brand of wit and cantor you can only find there.

On the home front, I apologize for disappearing for the past week.  I was shot down by a bad virus.  And of course the timing was just perfect.  I’ll have NHL awards, first round and playoff predictions up over the next two days.
