Anyone's guess on how far he is from the NHL. I can just tell you that the Blackhawks don't expect any of their college prospects to turn pro this summer. Now, I do believe there is a chance Adam Clendening could if he has a great prospect camp. But he also needs to get physically stronger. Shawn Lalonde is on the outs so there could be (if Lalonde is traded which is very possible. But Lalonde has a year left on his deal) a spot in Rockford for someone to get minutes and develop. My impression is Johns needs another year at least. He'll be a junior, as will Clendening. It's a huge year upcoming for Stephen Johns. Notre Dame is losing its captain Sean Lorenz on that blue line. Johns will compete with seniors Calabrese and Russo for the big and crucial minutes. So its a key year for him and the Hawks will have their eyes all over that for sure because the hope in him is they have a real smasher in the Seabrook mold. I don't think there should be any rush with Clendening, but you also have to wonder how much better he can get if he continues to play at BU? Unless he has a bad year, he'll leave after his junior season for sure.

Interesting points. It sounds like he knows it's do or die with the club and that has him motivated. Where do you think the Hawks are going with their roster with respect to the forwards?

With the exception of Bickell, Hayes and Stalberg, there doesn't appear to be too much size. Also, any credence given to Beach since he is a right handed shot? Off the top of my head, Bolland, Shaw, Hayes and Mayers are R handed, with Mayers a UFA at season's end.
It seems as long as there a few players making top dollar, the Hawks are going to need players that have salaries less the $2 million.

Thanks. I wouldn't throw in the towel on Beach just yet. But this summer is absolutely pivotal for him. Ultimately though, I don't think he fits into where the Hawks are going with their roster. Since he'll be right under their nose this summer, working out at the UC, I can see them making that evaluation before he even gets to camp. If he does everything they ask and works his butt off, I don't see any reason not to keep him around, unless you get a can't pass up offer for him, which I don't foresee happening.

Thanks Craig. Lalonde has one more year on his deal so there's still some opportunity there for him if the Hawks don't decide getting a return for him now (this summer) would be a smarter play. Scouts who pop in and out like him because the tools are there but its all about whether the light kicks on in his head. He's a good skater but he gets beat constantly moving backwards. I was impressed early on in the season by some improvement in his battle level. He was engaged more this year than in his rookie season. Overall, however, I just don't see it progressing or coming together for him. And your perception is another point that backs that up.

Uh are you forgetting seabrook last year. we ALREADY KNEW HOW IT FELT. and we also lost Toews this year. i might remind you that Keith was not a repeat offender and that was his first suspension. And I hope LA hands the Canucks their well deserved loss #4.
