Puck Chatter~Radio, Road to the 2014-15 Blackhawks

By Chris Block

Al Cimaglia and I joined forces through the technologies Monday night to produce the first podcast this site has managed to push through in months.

Over the course of the hour we discussed some things.  I couldn’t hear some of it, myself.  The good news is, you can hear all of Al just fine.

You can listen through your web browser by punching the play button below.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Or, you can download the MP3 file at this link.

The show is also available for immediate download at the ITunes store in the podcast section.  Just type Third Man In into the search field and we pop right up.  I just checked because even I was wondering if we were still there.

If I can determine what’s causing the persistent clicking sounds and audio cutting out that only I hear on my end we’ll do another show next Monday night.

If not, I’ll be the guest on HockeeNight’s PuckCast on Sunday night to analyze the moves the Blackhawks made to get salary cap compliant and continue previewing the season there as well.

Just a few pieces of site business to start with here today…

TTMI Fantasy Hockey openings

–First, I do want to mention that we are doing another season of Fantasy Hockey that you can be apart of.

A few spots remain available for our leagues, and drafts are Tuesday night, so you don’t have much time to get in. Email me at ChrisBlock@TheThirdManIn.com if you want in.

The draft will be held live, online on Monday night. Though, if you can’t join in for the live draft the Yahoo servers will auto pick your team for you. You can also pre-rank all NHL players prior to the draft so you have a better chance of getting the players you want if you can’t draft live.

PuckChatter~Radio; Al Cimaglia guests Talkin’ the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions

By Chris Block

Al Cimaglia of MyFoxChicago.com and Sirius/XM Radio joined me Wednesday night on PuckChatter~Radio to review the Chicago Blackhawks run to their 2nd Stanley Cup in the past 4 seasons.

Over the course of this 60 minute podcast, Al and I outline the turning points and pivotal factors in the Blackhawks playoff run, climaxing with Monday night’s clinching Game 6 victory in Boston.  We also look at the toll some player’s endured in the battle for Lord Stanley’s chalice and how much is too much; compliance buyouts, offer sheets, what awaits Bryan Bickell, what’s next for Stan Bowman and Joel Quenneville’s team, who won’t be back and some names that could also be on the move.

PuckChatter~Radio rings in 2013 with eternal optimism

By Chris Block

PuckChatter~Radio chimes in on the New Year appropriately today with a full breakdown of the latest in the NHL-NHLPA collective bargaining process as it dangerously draws near to the feared possibility of a 2012-13 season doomsday in the NHL cancelling its second full season in nine years.

Al Cimaglia of Sirius/XM Radio and MyFoxChicago.com joins the show to give his take on how and why the tumultuous negotiations have journeyed to this, in light of abound renewed optimism, still murky intersection.

We explore the final sticking points assumed to be the hindrances in preventing a deal to this point including the year-to-year salary variance percentage clause that has far-reaching ramifications that have gone unaddressed to this point.  We also examine the effectiveness of the “lower limit” salary cap clause and how, perhaps, that can be altered or used as leverage by the union to gain movement from the NHL on other sections of a new CBA.

All this and much, much more on a Lockout intensive PuckChatter~Radio.

Puck Chatter e.104, Al Cimaglia of MyFoxChicago.com

By Chris Block

Al Cimaglia of MyFoxChicago.com and Sirius/XM Radio joined me tonight for the latest edition of TheThirdManIn’s PuckChatter~Radio.

Al and I dissected the fallout from the Blackhawks second consecutive first round elimination, this time coming to the Phoenix Coyotes.

We analyzed what general manager Stan Bowman spotlighted as the areas his team faltered and also what he didn’t say.   We took a look at the supposed “core”, the Hawks’ inexcusable power play futility, Marian Hossa’s future, Phillip Danault, Dave Bolland, who is gone, Corey Crawford, if the goaltending should be upgraded and potential changes to the roster.

All this and much, much more in this sixty minute show.

Podcast Monday night with Al Cimaglia & Chris Block

By Chris Block

PuckChatter~Radio returns on Monday night at 7pm central with my guest Al Cimaglia of MyFoxChicago.com.

Join us Live at 7pm central over at BlogTalkRadio.com/TheThirdManIn.

Al and I will be recapping the Blackhawks-Coyotes series and Chicago’s second-consecutive quick playoff exit and analyze what went wrong.

We’ll take a look at all the issues the Blackhawks will be facing this summer, including if an upgrade is needed at the goaltending position.

Also, we will examine post season comments made by the players, Joel Quenneville and Stan Bowman.

I’ll give my take on whether help is on its way from Rockford, who of the call-ups from this past season will start 2012-13 back in the minors and which 2011 ‘Hawks draft picks (excluding Andrew Shaw) have the best shot to make the Blackhawks straight out of training camp.

–For those who cannot listen live, Monday night’s show will be archived at our BlogTalkRadio page, here on our site as well as on Itunes.

–If you missed our recent, well-received Rockford IceHogs season-in-review interview series, you can listen to our chats with Ted Dent, Jeremy Morin, Joe Lavin and Kyle Beach here….. Read more »

PuckChatter~Radio e.103 w/ Al Cimaglia of XM Radio and MyFoxChicago.com

By Chris Block

Tonight on PuckChatter~Radio we were joined by Al Cimaglia, Blackhawks writer at MyFoxChicago.com and also the Chicago correspondent at XM Radio Home Ice.

Al joined me for the first 50 minutes to give us his take on the 5-game suspension league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan handed down to Duncan Keith last week for his flying elbow smash on Canucks’ star Daniel Sedin, whether it was fair and Al’s ideas to improve the suspension process in the future.

We take a look at that inept Blackhawks’ power play, standing in front of the net, whose to blame and the roll-down effect problems with that special teams creates.  We also discuss Corey Crawford’s recent performances, good and bad and Joel Quenneville’s handling of the goaltending position.

All this and much more on this edition of Puck Chatter. Same show, new name.

Thanks as always for listening.
