It is fingernail reduction time, regardless of what medium of scoring comprises your league(s) as we hit the final stretch. For those in H2H leagues, it’s same as it ever was. Turn over your fringe players for other fringe players who have the scheduling advantage.

As for those in Roto style leagues, chances are there are multiple players who have either already abandoned their rosters, or have been paying minimal attention to their hockey league as the result of their poor finish and the looming fantasy baseball season. That can either be a good or bad thing for you. Good if you need to gain ground and can take advantage of “ghost” teams. Bad if you’re trying to protect stat categorical leads and your competition is gaining ground due to your league’s filthy layabouts failing to set their daily rosters. Read more »

Lindbloom’s View: On Questions and Gimmees

Lindbloom_1_20150328

By Rich Lindbloom

The gimmee in golf is often described as an uneasy agreement between hackers who have no clue what to do when grasping the magic wand. Many golfers take issue with this stroke shaving device, calling it a blatant bastardization of the rules of golf. They would claim you’re making a mockery of the game. I suppose it is hard to honestly say you shot an 89 if you’ve “picked up” 3 or 4, two footers in a round. Always with the caveat of course that you’re just trying to speed up play or you “know” you could make it.

Some golfers feel no compunction when given the opportunity to avoid stressing over a putt that is often times “outside the leather.” My friend Ken could drive the ball a country mile. Like many long ball hitters though, putting was not Ken’s forte. Although many golfers struggle with their conscious a bit when accepting a gimmee, I remember one of my friends once saying, “You never have to tell Herme twice to pick a putt up.” The truth is the ball would be in his pocket before you finished the phrase, “That’s good.” With a big smile on his face! Hawks sliding out of Central race, lose at home 5-2 to former foes, Columbus Blue Jackets

By Brad Vandenberk

After completing a 2 game road trip through the week with stops in Carolina and Philadelphia, returned to home soil to face a familiar foe in the Columbus Blue Jackets. This would spell the return of Jeremy Morin who saw 6:50 of ice and tallied 1 hit. The Hawks got on the board early but the Jackets did not stop coming putting 4 on the board in the first period and never looking back beating the Hawks 5-2 at the UC. This could not have come at a worse time as the Wild are now just 1 point behind them for 3rd in the Central division.

Corey Crawford got the start for the Hawks who was pulled midway through the first for Scott Darling. Sergei Bobrovsky shut the door making some key saves to get the win. Michal Rozsival did not play in this one as it was time for David Rundblad to see some action. Dan Carcillo and Joakim Nordstrom were both out with upper body injuries. Read more »

TTMI’s Trade Central

That’s more like it. Following a trade-less week we have action and even some deals of heavy consequence. If you’ve been reading these TTMI fantasy pages throughout the season, you know we pen this post largely for standard size leagues. This week only, we’ll have some quick hits for deeper roster players involving recent trades.

– David Clarkson: dealt to Columbus in one of the strangest trades one will ever see, jumped right onto the Jackets’ first line replacing Cam Atkinson, although, later in the game, the two flipped lines. As fate would have it, Clarkson’s first game with Columbus included a matchup with his former employer in New Jersey. Read more »

It’s a busy NHL schedule (save for Arizona) this week with the rare 5 game schedule for the Islanders (get all your Islander players into your weekly lineup), as well as 17 other teams set for 4 games each this week. That of course provides a multitude of goalie streaming opportunities if one is in need of goalie counting stats. Of particular note, should your league be of standard size, Carolina has two back to back sets of games this week which should translate to Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin splitting those starts. For those in leagues where Andrei Vasilevskiy isn’t owned, he makes a nice late week pickup with Tampa facing a back to back in Colorado and Arizona. Also of note, Eddie Lack should face the offensively challenged New Jersey Devils next weekend as well. Read more »

So you’re kind of upset that you spent a first or second round pick on a goalie like Lundquist, Rask, Price, or Varlamov and they’ve let you down thus far. It happens. Small samples, perhaps new equipment, new system, or new defensemen in front of them and all. You’ll be fine…except maybe in Varlamov’s case because he wasn’t going to replicate last season’s ratios with that blueline in front of him and now the groin thing. Hey, I didn’t want to take Varlamov in the TTMI League, myself. Stupid Chris Stupid Block forced me to.   Don’t worry, the shadowy overlord of TTMI is facing karma’s wrath by taking Cory Schneider a pick ahead of me and subsequently struggling to 5, 3, and 4 goals allowed in 3 of his last 5 starts.  A ha. Point streak now 21; Hawks top Columbus in OT

By Brad Gardner

The Chicago Blackhawks took the ice against the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second time this week on Friday night. A back-and-forth affair eventually swung in favor of the home team, with Brent Seabrook scoring the game winning goal in a 4-3 overtime victory.

Ray Emery got the nod in net for the Blackhawks after posting two thirds of the team’s shutout the previous night in St. Louis. Corey Crawford, who left that game against the Blues after the first period due to injury, dressed as Emery’s back-up.

The Hawks squeezed past the Jackets, the NHL’s lowest ranked team in the standings, in a 1-0 regulation win on Sunday and Todd Richards’ club again proved to be all the Hawks could handle on Friday. The Jackets pushed out to a pair of one-goal leads during the first 40 minutes and were still able to put together a good effort in the third period to tie it up and force overtime. Read more »
