Trade Deadline Wrap

For your scanning/reading pleasure, the TTMI Action News Team was all over the trade deadline with five alarm late breaking hot Internet player updates from a fantasy hockey perspective. Some of those players had already donned the laundry of their respective new organizations which we covered at the above link last week, but a handful of those players acquired on Sunday and Monday were not covered as far as their roles with their new teams filtered out. So we’ll wrap that up right now. You can also consider using some of these players as potential waiver adds. Read more »

TTMI’s Trade Central

That’s more like it. Following a trade-less week we have action and even some deals of heavy consequence. If you’ve been reading these TTMI fantasy pages throughout the season, you know we pen this post largely for standard size leagues. This week only, we’ll have some quick hits for deeper roster players involving recent trades.

- David Clarkson: dealt to Columbus in one of the strangest trades one will ever see, jumped right onto the Jackets’ first line replacing Cam Atkinson, although, later in the game, the two flipped lines. As fate would have it, Clarkson’s first game with Columbus included a matchup with his former employer in New Jersey. Read more »

TTMI’s Trade Central

Week two of the run-up to the trade deadline revealed…nothing. Not even a minor trade involving a role player. Even the rumor mongering from respectable insider types was largely hushed aside from some speculation that Bruins’ GM Peter Chiarelli could be on the outs if Boston were to miss the playoffs. That led to some new names allegedly hitting the trade block including Zdeno Chara, Loui Eriksson, Malcom Subban and Dennis Seidenberg. Seidenberg is largely irrelevant for fantasy purposes and I think there is next to no chance Chara moves before the draft. I’m also putting little weight into Jordan Staal’s return to Pittsburgh rumors. Read more »

It’s a busy NHL schedule (save for Arizona) this week with the rare 5 game schedule for the Islanders (get all your Islander players into your weekly lineup), as well as 17 other teams set for 4 games each this week. That of course provides a multitude of goalie streaming opportunities if one is in need of goalie counting stats. Of particular note, should your league be of standard size, Carolina has two back to back sets of games this week which should translate to Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin splitting those starts. For those in leagues where Andrei Vasilevskiy isn’t owned, he makes a nice late week pickup with Tampa facing a back to back in Colorado and Arizona. Also of note, Eddie Lack should face the offensively challenged New Jersey Devils next weekend as well. Read more »

Off night for Raanta, Hawks; Oilers skid away late to 5-2 win in Edmonton

By Brad Vandenberk

Just when you think Edmonton was a place you could walk into a get a win, think again. The Hawks came in from their victory in Minnesota last night and looked sluggish the entire night. Mental errors were apparent all over the ice as they let the NHL’s worst, beat them 5-2. Brandon Saad scored the only two goals with Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews collecting 2 assists. Saad’s goals were very similar grabbing rebounds off Ben Scrivens’ pads. Antti Raanta was also a shoe in to start as Corey Crawford played the night previous.

Dan Carcillo was sent to the press box once again with Teuvo Teravainen back in the fold.   Tim Erixon and injured Kris Versteeg were also not in the lineup. Teravainen really made a statement making some picturesque passes cross ice finding Patrick Sharp, Andrew Shaw and David Rundblad on a few opportunities. He wasn’t that mighty with the sluggish Hawks being unable to connect on his standout performance. Read more »

Hawks soar on, beating the Oilers 3-2 in Overtime

By Brad Vandenberk

Now that the dust has settled after a weekend of NHL record setting, it was time for the Blackhawks to shift the focus toward the young guns from Edmonton.  This was the first meeting between these two teams this season.

If we take a second to remember last season, the Oilers dominated the Hawks with Sam Ganger recording an 8 point night during one of the contests in northern Alberta.  So, it would be sort of fitting if the Hawks were to have their record streak broken by the hands of these Oilers.   However, the Oilers were missing one of their top forwards in Taylor Hall.  He was serving his second game of a 2 game suspension for a vicious open ice hit on Wild’s forward Cal Clutterbuck.  This would slightly deplete an already star-studded Oilers’ line up.

On the other hand, the Hawks were missing second line center, Dave Bolland, who suffered an upper body injury during the Sharks game on Friday and missed Sunday night’s game against Columbus.  Read more »
