Hopefully you’re not one of those panicky owners who has been dropping solid middle round quality players that have an extended track record of production for bottom pairing quality players who happen to get off to a quick start. Make sure you’re checking player usage if you are one of those people.

For example, Olli Maatta is a hot pickup right now after his 3 assist performance against the Ducks in the opener, and he may end up being solid this season, but if you look at his usage, he’s only accrued 1 shift on the PP for all of 24 seconds. Read more »

Hawks take Game 5, within one win of NHL supremacy; Toews sits out 3rd period

The Chicago Blackhawks got a pair of goals from Patrick Kane and held on in a tight Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against Boston Saturday night. Chicago prevailed 3-1 with captain Jonathan Toews observing from the bench for the entire third period.

The Blackhawks take a 3-2 series lead, building a two-goal advantage and getting a big bounce back effort from Corey Crawford. The Chicago goalie made 24 saves to help nail down the win.

The action was back and forth in the first 20 minutes. Boston outshot the ‘Hawks 11-8 but Chicago was solid defensively and created a lot of turnovers despite taking some big hits. Read more »

Blackhawks tie Finals series 2-2 in wild 6-5 overtime win at Boston

Entering the game trailing the Bruins 2-1 in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Finals series, the Chicago Blackhawks were desperate for a win on Wednesday night in Boston. The ‘Hawks offense woke up, but the Bruins would not let Game 4 go quietly.

The Bruins tied the game twice in the third period to force yet another overtime session. Brent Seabrook scored the decisive goal in overtime, his second overtime goal of the playoffs, to give the visiting team a 6-5 win. Read more »
