Hawks can’t hold Kings down in the 3rd, lose 5-4

The road trip has ended and the Blackhawks find themselves at the UC playing 3 games in 5 days.  Their recent road trip had them obtain 6 out of a possible 8 points.

Their only loss came at the hands of the Ducks on Wednesday, abolishing a 2-1 lead with 6 minutes left in the 3rd period, losing 4-2.

That’s not the only loss that was suffered.  Marian Hossa left the game in Colorado on Monday night and has yet to play a shift since.  Coach Q stated that the injury is not serious and that Hossa is expected to return shortly.  Sorry Hawks fans, Hossa did not dress tonight for the Kings match.  He has also been listed as questionable for Tuesday’s contest against the Flames.  Hossa was a big contributor to the Hawks beating the Flames in Calgary scoring the tying goal with 2.4 seconds left in the game.  They then went on to claim victory in the shootout.  Read more »

Hawks hold on to beat LA 3-2, within one game of NHL record

Hockey Day in America was celebrated Sunday and the Blackhawks entertained the United Center with some matinee action.  The Stanley Cup champions, LA Kings, were in town and looking to take some revenge over the Hawks.

Game one of this season had the Hawks spoiling the Kings’ Championship banner raising ceremony, winning 5 -2.  On Sunday, the Hawks were looking to maintain their dominance throughout the NHL.  They currently have recorded a single point or better for 14 straight games.  They are also playing their third home game over seven straight.

After a big win against the Sharks on Friday evening, the Hawks were looking to keep the momentum high against the Kings.  Read more »

Blackhawks off to roaring start, blast through the defending champs 5-2 in LA

Three months late, the Chicago Blackhawks finally kicked off the new season on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. The Blackhawks were sharp with the puck and got off to a quick start, eventually coming away a 5-2 victory.

Although badly out-hit in the game by the Kings (39-22), the Blackhawks managed to get off to the quick start and hold the lead. The PK unit turned in a perfect effort, killing off five penalties in the game (although the final Kings advantage lasted only the final 36 seconds of the game).

Less than two minutes into the game, Patrick Sharp drew the first penalty. Then 40 seconds into that man advantage, Trevor Lewis cross-checked Jonathan Toews into the corner boards to put the Blackhawks on a 5-on-3 power play. The first unit maintained the offensive zone throughout the two-man advantage, in part because of a hustle play by Marian Hossa to keep the puck in the zone, and Patrick Kane eventually cashed on a one-time blast from a sharp angle. Hossa, who lined up on the point for this power play, got the primary assist for putting the puck in Kane’s wheelhouse. Read more »

Desperate Kings pickup two points in Chicago

Jonathan Quick continued to baffle the Blackhawks when his Kings club visited the United Center on Sunday evening. The Blackhawks battled back to tie the game twice and earn one point in the standings, eventually falling to Mike Richards’ conversion in the shootout for a final score of 3-2.

The Kings set the tone early with a chance off the opening faceoff. Nick Leddy fumbled a pass to his defensive partner that was picked up by Dwight King. He broke in between the two defenders on Ray Emery but the ‘Hawks goaltender was able to deny the game’s first shot.

Slava Voynov was able to get one by Emery a few minutes later. Duncan Keith pinched into the offensive zone but had the puck poked away by Justin Williams. The sent the Kings in on a 4-on-1 against Brent Seabrook, who sold out to take away the passing lane. Williams still had room to get the puck to Voynov, who beat Emery wide to the glove side for the rookie defenseman’s fifth tally of the season. Read more »

Blackhawks miss their call time in LA, Dustin Brown’s hat-trick powers Kings to 4-0 victory

The Blackhawks were shellacked by the reinvigorated Los Angeles Kings, but it had little to do with the newly-acquired sniper Jeff Carter. Instead, it was the more recent subject of trade rumors surrounding the Kings, Dustin Brown, who scored a natural hat trick in the game’s first 25 minutes that proved to be an insurmountable lead for the home team.

While the Blackhawks had nary a shot to show for their first power play opportunity of the game, the Kings were able to capitalize on their first man advantage after John Scott got his elbow up finishing a check. Jarrett Stoll gained the offensive zone and dropped the puck to Dustin Brown along the sideboards. Stoll kept skating and drew Dylan Olsen out of position, giving Brown enough room to skate inside the dot and wrist the game’s first goal over Corey Crawford’s shoulder at 10:48. Read more »

They say the most segregated hour during the week in America is at 10 am on a Sunday morning. Although there have been signs of change, birds of a feather still tend to flock together. Fortunately, the church I attend actually has a good cross section of various races. Through my involvement in Children’s Church, I happened to meet and befriend a lady by the name of Laverne. Laverne and her husband, Kevin, had a bunch of us over for a barbecue one day in their back yard. It was there that I chanced to meet Laverne’s friend Lamont. Let’s just say Lamont had more Fred Sanford in him than his namesake. Read more »

Quick Blanks Blackhawks as Chicago Drops First December Home Game

The Chicago Blackhawks were handed their first loss at the United Center in nearly a month Wednesday night. Jonathan Quick denied 38 shots on goal as the Los Angeles Kings bested Chicago 2-0.

The Blackhawks got off to a solid start in the opening minutes, generating two big scoring opportunities. Andrew Brunette’s backhand attempt was stopped by Quick in the first minute. Brandon Pirri got a look from the slot when Marian Hossa fed him following a takeaway, but the shot was blocked by Mike Richards.

Chicago spent most of the first ten minutes on penalty kill duty. John Scott was tabbed with roughing 2:31 into the game when he took on the Kings in front of the Los Angeles net. At the 5:53 mark, Patrick Sharp was charged with a double minor for a high stick. The PK unit was up to the task, killing all six minutes of the infractions.

The Blackhawks got their first time with the man advantage when Brad Richardson was called for hooking with 5:20 to go in the first. They got another with 2:31 when Drew Doughty hooked Patrick Kane. Both power plays expired with no lighting of the lamp and the teams went to the locker rooms with no score. Read more »

Hawks Close Circus Trip with 2-1 Victory in LA

The Chicago Blackhawks brought their six-game road trip to a close Saturday night with their second victory in a row. The Blackhawks swept the back-to-back, following up Friday’s come from behind victory in Anaheim with a 2-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Duncan Keith fired a shot on goal from the left point. Marcus Kruger got a piece of the puck, and the deflection struck the side of the net and rolled toward the end boards. As Dave Bolland swung from the crossbar, Andrew Brunette calmly collected the puck and executed a nice wraparound on goalie Jonathan Quick.

Brunette, who played on the third line with Bolland and Kruger, potted his first even strength goal of the season. He proved to be efficient with the puck, drawing twine on his only attempt of the evening.

Chicago limited the Kings chances to score in the opening period, but Los Angeles evened the score midway through the contest. Keith stopped Matt Greene’s shot attempt only to see Jarret Stoll get control of the puck. Stoll took advantage of the turnover, firing a shot over Corey Crawford’s glove to tie the contest at a goal apiece. Read more »
