On this 40-minute edition of Puck Chatter, Superstar, myself and a barking puppy dog discuss the latest major topics as they pertain to Chicago Blackhawks hockey.

Discussed is the updated status of Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith’s elbow and its impending suspension, Corey Crawford’s recent resurgence, Johnny Oduya, the newest Rockford IceHogs, their playoff chances, the Clear Day roster, Alexander Salak’s future and another struggling veteran.

We also had a Chicago Blackhawk sighting in Millennium Park today, Ruutu (whose favorite Blackhawk is apparently that player) puppy dog is doing better but is now kicking feces at his owner, Bombay gin, spending a night in Superstar’s box and Red Wings fans whining about the Preds and Alexander Radulov.

Puck Chatter Podcast: Talkin’ Future Hawks with Brad of HockeysFuture.com

Wednesday night we were joined by Brad Gardner of HockeysFuture.com and also here at TheThirdManIn.com as we got caught up on the Blackhawks top prospects making their way up through the system.

Brad and I went through the Blackhawks budding young stars and gave our thoughts on which prospects will ultimately make the biggest impact one day in a Chicago Blackhawks sweater.

We covered and charted the progress this season of Brandon Saad, Mark McNeill, Brandon Pirri, Adam Clendening, Phillip Danault, Jeremy Morin, Jimmy Hayes, Kevin Hayes, Stephen Johns, Michael Paliotta, goaltender Johan Mattsson and many more.  And we also note which top prospect will be in an IceHogs uniform very soon.

After the first hour of prospect talk with Brad, I am joined by the Superstar for the final thirty minutes or so of the show.

We discussed some recent misfortune and having to say goodbye to a beloved pet, the Moose, this week.  On to the Blackhawks, we preview the upcoming Blackhawks schedule and project how difficult the road ahead to the postseason will be for the boys in the Indian head sweaters and if it will once again come down to the final game of the regular season.

Also, first impressions of Johnny Oduya, the “knee-capping” of Joel Quenneville, what’s going on with Jonathan Toews, the IceHogs Clear Day Roster and issues with veterinary clinics.

TTMI~Radio, e.95 – In the Meantime

How’s this for self-promotion….

It’s a show.  I don’t really know what to say about this one other than the Superstar and I got back together for e.95 of TheThirdManIn~Radio.  Usually when he and I do these things you never know what we’ll talk about and the reason is – neither do we.

We talked about some things, I don’t recall too much exactly.  We had a show outline but it was aborted during the music intro.  I enjoyed myself though.  We discussed the Blackhawks getting better today, how awful traditionally they’ve been in Philly (Stanley Cup aside), a few New Years resolutions, Andrew Shaw and some other stuff I can’t recall at the moment.

I’d say its completely missable unless you’re desperate for time killer or background noise at work.  Its probably best for that.

I’d say we’ll do better next time, but that’s too lofty a goal.

Hawks sign top picks McNeill and Danault, plus Shaw; Podcast Wednesday and more IceHogs notes

We’ve got TTMI~Radio coming up tomorrow night (Wednesday) January 4th over at BlogTalkRadio.com/TheThirdManIn.

Join us live at 8pm central for our annual New Years resolution and predictions extravaganza.  This show should be Super.

We’ll take a look at why the Blackhawks suck against the Oilers, what’s wrong with Dan Carcillo’s brain… how the Blackhawks don’t seem to care about the brains of Marcus Kruger, Brent Seabrook and others… and we’ll preview the week ahead, including the big matchups Thursday in Philly with the Flyers and back at home Sunday with the Red Wings.

Beer, Bacon & Malort

My good friends over at HockeeNight dot com will be hosting some Red Wings fans this Saturday night, January 7th, at Paddy Long’s in Chicago at 1028 W. Diversey.  That, of course, is on the eve of the Red Wings-Blackhawks matchup at United Center the next night.  Hmm.  Beer, bacon and Malort… don’t mind if I do.

–I’ll have another column running in the Committed Indian this Sunday night.

McNeil, Danault gets deals

On Monday, the Blackhawks made official the signings of both of their 2011 1st round draft picks, centers Mark McNeill and Phillip Danault.

Both players will continue with their junior teams and likely be called to the Rockford IceHogs if those seasons end before Rockford’s does, which at this point looks like it’ll be on April 14th. Read more »

Preseason opener roster set, Captain and mini-serious to skate in Saskatoon

Here’s the roster the Blackhawks will travel to Saskatoon with tomorrow for the first preseason game against the Oilers.  This info has been relayed from today’s practice sessions by Jesse Rogers and Chris Kuc on their respective Twitter accounts.

The Blackhawks couldn’t resist the temptation, both Toews brothers will suit up.  Ray Emery and Alexander Salak will be the goaltenders.  I imagine they’ll split the time some how, but that isn’t clear.  Making their unofficial pro debuts are 2011 draft picks Mark McNeill, Brandon Saad and Phillip Danault.

Emery, Rostislav Olesz, Jamal Mayers, Sami Lepisto and Steve Montador see their first real game action as members of the Blackhawks organization.

These are not the lines.  Those should be released on the Hawks’ main site sometime Tuesday afternoon. Read more »

Training Camp Festival 2011: Klinkhammer scores on the breakaway

The Blackhawks kicked off camp with the fourth annual Training Camp Festival on Saturday, September 17th. The sold-out event featured the camp invitees broken up into three teams for practices and a pair of scrimmages at the United Center.

Each game included two 25-minute periods and a shoot out to follow, regardless of the score. The red team, led by Dave Bolland and Brent Seabrook, played in both scrimmages and was the first team to score in each contest. Simon Danis-Pepin opened scoring in the first scrimmage with a long-distance slapper that found its way past Corey Crawford. In game two, the red team took the early lead when Peter Leblanc picked up a rebound and buried his chance in front of the net.

Neither lead would last long, however. The white team controlled most of the first scrimmage, winning by a score of 3-1 behind goals from Jonathan Toews, Brandon Pirri, and Shawn Lalonde. Read more »

Hawks prospects finish strong, down Pens 4-1 to salvage a win in Oshawa

The final day of the Prospect Tournament in Oshawa, Ontario wrapped up Tuesday with the Chicago Blackhawks playing their final contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Both teams entered the game 0-2 for the tournament, looking for a win.  The Hawks had the slight edge by having a total of 6 goals throughout the tournament, while Pittsburgh had just 1 through 2 games.

Johan Mattsson was the starting goalie, with Shawn Lalonde and Ryan Stanton on defensive.  The forward line saw Jimmy Hayes and Brandon Saad, centered by Phillip Danault. [Tuesday’s line up]

The game didn’t take long to get started.  15 seconds after the puck dropped, Rob Flick set the tone for the day dropping his gloves against Keven Veilleux of the Penguins.  Fists were flying as Veilleux took Flick to the ice.  Just 5 minutes later, after a delayed offside, Shawn Lalonde decided to take on Dominik Uher.  Read more »
