Quick show of hands – how many of you rolled out of the rack on Sunday morning afternoon, logged into your Roto, points, or head-to-head league and subsequently felt a fantasy-dagger in your back at the vision of emblazoned pluses and minuses that littered your league’s home page. Count ‘em five Saturday shutouts that undoubtedly had a profound effect on your current league’s standings or head-to-head weekly matchups.   Who knew so many hockey players were NCAA basketball fans.

Last week we covered head-to-head league playoffs, and minus the schedule, much of that info still applies, especially for those of you whose playoffs begin this week. For this week, we’ll take a look at those of you heading down the stretch in Roto and points leagues. Especially those of you in leagues with player use maximums. Continue reading »

This holiday week will obviously be a slow one in fantasyland with only five clubs set to play more than two games. If your head-to-head league scores this week as one stand alone week, make sure you have enough starts in goal to meet your weekly minimum requirement. If you play in a league where rosters lock on Monday, it’s a good week to sit all Montreal players you own in lieu of their one game schedule. If you need to add a goalie start off the wire for the week, the backup situation is pretty light given the choices of Bryzgalov, Dubnyk, Hutton, Greiss or Justin Peters.   On paper the best bet may have been Thomas Greiss who would seem a good choice to face Florida while Fleury grabs the Lightning matchup the following night, but Greiss was ill this past week and has undergone testing for mumps. So he may not even be available. Continue reading »

The content will largely remain the usual moderately useful quality, but this week’s edition will likely appear more truncated due to the present author’s illness. Quite honestly I intended to sandbag this week’s edition and totally blow it off, but no sooner than five minutes after I intimated there would be no post this week, a heavy fisted knock from the front door revealed TTMI’s shadowy overlord, Chris Block, shorn to toe in nothing but a tunic and 24 eye black Doc Martens combat boots (feel free to burn that image into your mental hard drive), and his soupbones heavily taped. “No post this week, eh?”….while waiving heavily wrapped soupbones in a menacing manner. Let’s just get this over with. Continue reading »
