Quick show of hands – how many of you rolled out of the rack on Sunday morning afternoon, logged into your Roto, points, or head-to-head league and subsequently felt a fantasy-dagger in your back at the vision of emblazoned pluses and minuses that littered your league’s home page. Blackhawks Floor It in the Third, Beat Sharks 6-2

By Jon Fromi

The Chicago Blackhawks broke open a tight contest in San Jose Saturday afternoon, scoring four goals in the final 20 minutes. Behind a pair of goals from Patrick Sharp, Chicago wound up 6-2 winners over the Sharks.

First Period-Ben Smith, now on the Sharks, collected a mishandled puck off the stick of Kimmo Timonen and fed Barclay Goodrow coming down the left side in the third minute. A Bryan Bickell holding penalty at 3:46 gave San Jose an early power play. Logan Couture appeared to convert early in the man advantage but Joe Pavelski was ruled to have made contact with Crawford in the blue paint and the goal was disallowed. Read more »

Sharks’ Antti Bests Hawks Antti to 2-0 Sharks Win

By Jon Fromi

The Chicago Blackhawks finished the month of January 6-6-1 after being shut out in San Jose Saturday night. Former Blackhawks goaltender Antti Niemi had a big night, stopping all 31 shots tossed his way as the Sharks beat Chicago 2-0.

The only goal San Jose would need came five minutes into the game. Melker Karlsson brought the puck across the Chicago blue line and fed defenseman Matt Irwin at the top of the left circle. Irwin’s attempt came off Antti Raanta’s pads and provided a second chance for Karlsson. Raanta kept the shot out of the net again but couldn’t control the rebound. Karlsson was able to collect the loose puck and slip it between the Hawks goalie and the left post. Read more »
