TTMI’s Trade Central

Week two of the run-up to the trade deadline revealed…nothing. Not even a minor trade involving a role player. Even the rumor mongering from respectable insider types was largely hushed aside from some speculation that Bruins’ GM Peter Chiarelli could be on the outs if Boston were to miss the playoffs. That led to some new names allegedly hitting the trade block including Zdeno Chara, Loui Eriksson, Malcom Subban and Dennis Seidenberg. Seidenberg is largely irrelevant for fantasy purposes and I think there is next to no chance Chara moves before the draft. I’m also putting little weight into Jordan Staal’s return to Pittsburgh rumors. Read more »

In recent vintage we’ve covered first half over and underachievers as well as TTMI’s Top 50 Keeper/Dynasty League Under 25 Rankings for those fledgling teams who are looking towards next season and have no alternative other than undergoing a rebuild.

Hopefully the amount on goalie info won’t be quite as daunting and time consuming as it was this week, so we hope to concentrate on those owners in redraft leagues who are in the middle of the pack in their respective league’s standings and need to start making their move now with some high risk/high reward trade targets. By that measure we’re talking about selling high on some first half over performers and targeting first half underperformers who may be primed for a second half market correction. Read more »

We’ve officially reached the midway point for all but four NHL teams. That makes for a good point to reflect back on some draft maladies and which players have killed your standing. Thus here are the top 25 over and underachievers in fantasy hockey arbitrarily ranked in an undisclosed (read: highly convoluted) method that contains a mix of ADP in relation to their current ranking in standard size leagues as well as factoring in how much these particular players have probably murdered some key stat categories, again for standard category leagues.

We’ve omitted players who suffered low rankings due to injury such as Patrick Sharp or Zdeno Chara, though not a guy like Alex Semin who has been injured, healthy scratched, and terrible. Read more »

Jets chase Crawford, Winnipeg skates to 5-1 win

By Brad Vandenberk

After playing with heart hearts on Sunday after the tragic loss of Clint Reif, the Blackhawks hosted the Winnipeg Jets. Most of the Jets players were once part of the Hawks organization so this made for an emotional match up. The Jets played a picture perfect road game and made the Hawks look like the defeated team they have been the past few days. Corey Crawford was pulled at the 4:30 mark of the 1st period leaving Antti Raanta in the crease to finish this 5-1 loss. This is the last game before a 3 day NHL Christmas break and it couldn’t have come a better time for the Hawks. Spending time with family and friends is exactly what is required to refocus before they visit Colorado on Saturday.

Brad Richards missed his second consecutive game with an upper body injury. Although he did take part in the morning skate which means he’s not far from returning. David Rundblad was in and Tim Erixon was scratched for this game. Michael Hutchinson made 38 of 39 saves to win again at the United Center. The last time Hutchinson played the Hawks was on November 2nd stealing a shutout in a 1-0 win. Read more »

This holiday week will obviously be a slow one in fantasyland with only five clubs set to play more than two games. If your head-to-head league scores this week as one stand alone week, make sure you have enough starts in goal to meet your weekly minimum requirement. If you play in a league where rosters lock on Monday, it’s a good week to sit all Montreal players you own in lieu of their one game schedule. If you need to add a goalie start off the wire for the week, the backup situation is pretty light given the choices of Bryzgalov, Dubnyk, Hutton, Greiss or Justin Peters.   On paper the best bet may have been Thomas Greiss who would seem a good choice to face Florida while Fleury grabs the Lightning matchup the following night, but Greiss was ill this past week and has undergone testing for mumps. So he may not even be available. Read more »
