Berra stuns Hawks 3-2 in Overtime in debut for Flames

By Jon Fromi

First Period-Rookie net minder Reto Berra was greeted by lots of vulcanized rubber, to the tune of 18 shots by the Blackhawks in the opening 20 minutes. The first shot on goal came from the stick of Calgary’s Brian McGrattan just over two minutes in. McGrattan then gave the Hawks a power play when he tripped Niklas Hjalmarsson. Chicago got a few shots on net that Reto Berra left out in front, but the Flames survived the two minutes.

Crawford saw his share of action in the first ten minutes. In the tenth minute, Matt Stajan took a feed from Curtis Glencross and snapped a shot at the net but was denied by the Chicago goalie. A minute later he gloved an attempt by Jiri Hudler. Read more »

Blackhawks rebound, blank Flames

By Jon Fromi

The Chicago Blackhawks got goals from two defensemen Tuesday night with some help from Patrick Kane. Ray Emery and the defense took care of the rest as the ‘Hawks snapped back from Monday’s loss, defeating the Calgary Flames 2-0.

The Blackhawks had an early opportunity forty seconds in when Niklas Hjalmarsson held a puck in the Calgary zone. Patrick Kane centered to Dave Bolland, but the Rat couldn’t evaluate the puck past Mikka Kiprusof. Bolland took a high stick from Jerome Iginla at the 2:11 mark to set up the first power play of the night. Kane made a nice move late but Viktor Stalberg couldn’t provide the finish thanks to Chris Butler’s skate.

The first goal belonged to Chicago on a play started when Kane attempted to center to Bolland again in the eighth minute. The puck eluded Bolland but was retrieved by Nick Leddy at the left circle. Leddy’s shot glanced off of the left pad of Kiprusoff and into the goal to make it 1-0 7:09 into the first. Read more »

TTMI~Radio, e.87, Sixty-five minutes Talkin’ Blackhawks with Al Cimaglia

A special-express caffeine-fueled edition of TTMI~Radio this week.  Only thirteen more of these to go now….

Al Cimaglia of Sirius/XM Home Ice and HockeyIndependent.com joined for sixty-five minutes of Hawk Talk.  We did this show two hours earlier and quicker than usual since I had to be out the door for a fantasy football draft tonight.  Great show though, covering a bevy of topics.

After running down all the recent pertinent news, Al and I listen to comments Patrick Kane made to a Toronto radio station last week and give our take on the Hawks’ superstar right winger’s new destination date of recovery.

We also take a look at controversial comments recently made by Mike Cammalleri and the now-retired Dave Scatchard.  Is the NHL’s current concussion care policy good enough? Should their be greater concerns, as Cammalleri hints, at the artificial enhancements players are using to compete and endure the NHL grind and is the current drug testing policy doing the job?

Also, we analyze Marcus Kruger‘s place on this year’s Blackhawks; Jimmy Hayes given the opportunity to train in Lugano over a recent 1st round pick; IceHogs’ roster concerns; what we would have paid Chris Campoli to stay and answers to emails on why two of the greatest goaltenders of all-time, Dominik Hasek and Ed Belfour, were sent packing by Chicago in the early to mid-90s.

All this and probably more I’m forgetting.
