Chris Block joins the Hockeenight Puckcast for a special Holiday podcast

On Sunday night I had the pleasure of joining CT and the “Forklift” on their groundbreaking, award-winning HockeeNight PuckCast.

As always when Hockeenight and TTMI join together, we ran the usual gamut of topics.  We review the NHL’s class action complaint filed against the NHLPA in a New York court on Friday and the damning quotes from Jonathan Toews and Troy Brouwer cited in the motion.

We discuss all the latest on Blackhawks prospects including Brandon Saad, Andrew Shaw, Ben Smith and Fork’s favorite, Jeremy Morin.  Also, we broach the Blackhawks directive to IceHogs coach Ted Dent to move Andrew Shaw back to center, and what may have gone into that decision – the Jeremy Roenick autobiography, “torpedoing” Jimmy Hayes, Malort~!, Gary Bettman’s standing in the face of his third work stoppage, how the 5% variance would effect teams should it be realized, George “the Animal” Steele and some professional wrestling history.

News/notes: Mac Carruth turning pro, upcoming shows

By Chris Block

A few news items tonight but first a couple plugs…

–Our PuckChatter~Radio podcast returns this Tuesday night, May 29th at 8pm central.  We’ll focus on our listener emails on the Blackhawks, IceHogs and prospects.  You can listen live that night at this link.  If you have a question or commentary you would like to contribute, send those to PuckChatter@gmail.com by Tuesday afternoon at the latest.

If you haven’t listened to our interview with Stephen Nelson from this past Tuesday night, I’d urge you to do so.  If you’re interested in the Blackhawks top prospects in Rockford especially this was a great show.  We’ve got a ton of feedback on the interview already, in particular Nelson’s candid account of Ben Smith’s relationship with Jimmy Newcomer, the 19-year old cancer-stricken Rockford area boy who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.  We’ll have more on Ben Smith this coming Tuesday night.

–I’ll be a guest on Hockeenight.com’s PuckCast on Sunday night, June 10th to preview the 2012 NHL Draft taking place June 22-23 in Pittsburgh at the CONSOL Energy Center.  That’s shaping up to what could be a pretty active weekend for the Blackhawks.

Carruth going pro

Several outlets are now reporting the Chicago Blackhawks have signed goaltender Mac Carruth to a three-year entry level contract.  Carruth was selected 191st overall by the Blackhawks in the seventh round of the 2010 Entry Draft.

RDS reporter Renaud Lavoie was first to report Carruth signed to a three-year deal with an NHL cap hit (under the current collective bargaining agreement) of $525,000 per season.  Lavoie has been first to report many prospects signing entry levels in the past.  The contract would be a two-way deal, so he’d make far less, in the neighborhood of $67,000 per while in the AHL or ECHL.  The Blackhawks needed to sign Carruth or he would have been eligible to for Draft re-entry. He can still return to junior hockey for one more season, be it with Portland or should a trade be worked out with another club.

While this deal has not been officially confirmed nor announced by the Blackhawks it should be shortly.  CapGeek.com has different, unconfirmed numbers on Carruth’s deal at this point.  Announcement or not, all signs point to Carruth leaving the Portland Winterhawks major junior organization in the WHL for pro hockey in the Blackhawks’ system. Podcast: HockeeNight & Chris Block Thing-A-Thong

Last night, I joined the Hockeenight triumvirate for their weekly PuckCast~!

The PuckCast is one of my favorite ways to waste time during the week, and so it should be yours too.

We mostly discussed the state of the Chicago Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs, but also sexual orientation and cereal (yes, they are tied), Olive Garden and Slaky’s issues with the St. Louis Blues.

Enjoy.

Check out this Monday night’s Hockeenight PuckCast

I’ll be returning as a guest on this week’s Hockeenight PuckCast.

The three of us will be recording the show Monday night starting at 8:15.  Since CT & the Forklift are a bit too weird for the mainstream, you’ll need to register for TalkShoe and note that you’re at least 18 to listen.

We’ll be wrapping the Stanley Cup Playoffs, previewing the Blackhawks at this week’s NHL Draft and looking ahead to what the Hawks might do when free agency commences the following week.  And I’m sure there will be a bevy of other topics as well, including mid-90’s Rangers’ references, Pierre McGuire appreciation, the dumbest thing written by a Blackhawks’ writer/blogger in the past two months (this could be a whole show), who will be the first NHL player to get out-ed for sending pictures (dongaging?)of their penis to women’s cell phones and finally where did it all go wrong for career of Dave Chyzowski?

If you can’t listen live the show will be posted at Hockeenight.com late Monday night / early Tuesday morning.

I’ll also post the audio here on Tuesday.

For those asking about the next edition of TTMI~Radio…. as the current and reigning Blackhawks’ general manager would say…. We’re right on schedule…. But I don’t have a timetable for our return.

Simulcast Playoff Preview with Hockeenight dot com

In place of our weekly TTMI~Radio show this week, we did a simulcast with CT and the “Forklift” on their weekly Hockeenight PuckCast.

You can listen to the show here or over on their web site.

Those of you who download the mp3 file can right-click here.   The show is two hours long so its a rather large file this time around.

Dieter Kurtenbach joined the fray as well.  We all gave our first-round predictions; discussed Alain Vigneault’s brain, Ben Smith’s game, Bryan Bickell’s aspirations to be the best $525,000 perimeter player in the game, an entire line of Frolik’s, Tomas Kopecky’s next contract, Electric Football, the Rockford IceHogs, sports writers ending sentences with exclamation points, Forklift’s bold prediction, Blackhawk Hope, keys to the series, Herb Abrams, the worst upcoming crop of 1,000 game players you could ever imagine, the “people’s prospect”, Micah Hoffpauir, USA Network drama, chicken nuggets in business suits and so much more.

It was a fun time as always with the Hockeenight guys.  Thanks to them as always for sharing their time with us.  Check out their show each and every week for a unique brand of wit and cantor you can only find there.

On the home front, I apologize for disappearing for the past week.  I was shot down by a bad virus.  And of course the timing was just perfect.  I’ll have NHL awards, first round and playoff predictions up over the next two days.
