Hawks win a thriller late in Columbus

By Michael Calvert

The Hawks stole at least one point from the Blue Jackets last night.  The Jackets came into the game clinging to a one point lead for the second wild card spot in the East, and with one game in hand.  With that being said the Jackets needed these points badly and came within 2.5 seconds of getting at least one.  This, two days after Colorado erased a 2-goal BJ lead in the 3rd period and beat Columbus in the shootout.   I suppose it’s a tough week to be a BJ fan, tougher than usual anyway.

Typically sporting the IceHogs jersey, Jeremy Morin and Jokim Nordstrom suited up for this game.  I suppose we can count on the Hawks not burning a contract year on Teuvo Teravainen.   I am a little disappointed personally, but it’s likely for the better. Read more »

Blackhawks dismantle Blue Jackets 6-1 at the UC

By Michael Calvert

The Hawks faced a much tougher Blue Jacket team last night at the UC, but it didn’t matter, the end result was awfully familiar.

With Marian Hossa out still the Hawks had to regroup their lines some, the first line lost Sharp and gained an Andrew Shaw.  That’s a minus-1 if you’re counting at home.

Michal Handzus must have gotten to the UC and thought “look what I found,” as he centered the Patricks, Sharp and Kane.  The third line for the Hawks looked an awful lot like it should with Bickell and Versteeg centered by Regin.  Lastly, the fourth line of Smith, Krueger and Bollig.  6th Dman was played by Brookbank tonight.

1st period:  Hawks got on the scorer’s sheet early in this one.  Brandon Bollig disrupted a clearing attempt and Marcus Kruger picked off said errant attempt.  Kruger took the puck to the middle and sort of backhand flipped it towards the net.  Johnny on the spot Bollig got a stick on it and 1-0 Hawks.  The Hawks are pretty much all over the BJ’s at this point. Hawks earn extra point in the shootout at Columbus

By Brad Gardner

The Blackhawks took two more hard fought points from the Blues Jackets at Nationwide Arena in a 2-1 shootout victory. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each scored in the shootout while Corey Crawford stopped two of the three Columbus shooters to seal the victory.

The Blue Jackets extended their point streak to 10 games but the club took only their second point from Chicago on the season. The Blackhawks won all four meetings between the two teams in what has turned out to be the final season that the two teams can be considered division rivals. It was far from an easy season sweep for the ‘Hawks, however, as each of those four victories were by one goal.

The fourth and final meeting of the season between the two teams was the longest yet, but despite a superb 39-save effort from Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blackhawks were able to beat the Jackets goaltender with each of their first two shootout attempts. Read more »
