Game 2: Everything falls apart in 3rd for Hawks

By Michael Calvert

Andrew Sharp practiced in full on Tuesday but did not suit up for last night’s game. I’m afraid, had he done so, it would have made very little difference.

1st period: The story of the first period was penalties. There were 6 of them in total in just the first period, 4 of which went against the Kings. Game one featured 4 power plays in total. I don’t know if the refs are trying to calm things down as they didn’t look all that out of control to begin with, but they were calling it tight in game 2. Read more »

Lindbloom’s View: Hossa Rider

Lindbloom_Hossa_LowRiderBig Hoss drives a little slower

“Low rider don’t use no gas now
Low rider don’t move to fast” – War

By Rich Lindbloom

In the excellent Blackhawk program that they sell inside the United Center, they list the players and their likes on a variety of things. Favorite food, music, movie, hobby and cars are often noted among them. I’m not sure what kind of car Marian Hossa chose, (my guess would be along the lines of a Ferrari), but …

For one reason or another I could always envision Big Hoss cruising down the streets of Southern California in a Lowrider. To me, it seems that is just the way he rolls. There’s a coolness and pride associated with the Lowriders that seems to complement Hossa’s game. While everyone else is flying frenetically around the ice like chickens with their heads cut off, Marian just seems to be cruising. Think Pedro’s cousins-don’t touch that bike dude! Read more »

Blackhawks miss their call time in LA, Dustin Brown’s hat-trick powers Kings to 4-0 victory

By Brad Gardner

The Blackhawks were shellacked by the reinvigorated Los Angeles Kings, but it had little to do with the newly-acquired sniper Jeff Carter. Instead, it was the more recent subject of trade rumors surrounding the Kings, Dustin Brown, who scored a natural hat trick in the game’s first 25 minutes that proved to be an insurmountable lead for the home team.

While the Blackhawks had nary a shot to show for their first power play opportunity of the game, the Kings were able to capitalize on their first man advantage after John Scott got his elbow up finishing a check. Jarrett Stoll gained the offensive zone and dropped the puck to Dustin Brown along the sideboards. Stoll kept skating and drew Dylan Olsen out of position, giving Brown enough room to skate inside the dot and wrist the game’s first goal over Corey Crawford’s shoulder at 10:48. Read more »

TTMI~Radio, Kings’ Beat with MayorsManor.com

On tonight’s show we’re joined by The Mayor, coincidentally enough, owner and author of MayorsManor.com, an outstanding LA Kings’ blog.

John joins us to give us the latest on the Drew Doughty contract hold out, where the two sides stand and how Doughty’s status is, or isn’t, affecting his teammates.

Over this solid hour, we covered the Kings’ depth and versatility on the blue line.  We take a look at the rookie who will likely step in to hold Doughty’s place in the line up in the interim; Jack Johnson’s place heading into his new 7-year contract and Willie Mitchell’s health and value entering what is a contract-year for the former Canuck blue liner.

Up front we preview a new-look top six and the competition for jobs on the Kings’ third and fourth lines.  Also, Mayor gives us his thoughts on Mike Richards in LA, where the real leadership comes from on this Kings team and why the Mayor believes this group of Kings are the real deal.

We covered all-things Kings.  The Mayor does a terrific job covering the team.  From player interviews, behind the scenes insight to breaking news, MayorsManor is a must-visit for LA Kings information and analysis.

TTMI~Radio returns this week with a look to the Pacific Division and the upward bound Los Angeles Kings.  We are joined by The Mayor of MayorsManor.com, who gives us the lowdown on all-things LA Kings.

Terry Murray’s Kings, led by stars Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Dustin Brown, Jack Johnson and many others figure to be a prominent fixture and pain in the side of teams like the Blackhawks, Sharks and Red Wings not only in 2010-11 but for many years to come.

For you Twitter-ers, you can also follow The Mayor @ Twitter.com/Mayor119

In the last half hour of the show, we explain what went wrong with last week’s show (a transcript of my interview with player-agent Scott Norton will be posted on the site in a day or two) and why the live show hasn’t been posted on line to date as well as why Antti Niemi and agent Bill Zito made the right choice in signing with the Sharks.

As for our discussion with the Mayor, we covered many topics, including, but not limited to….

- Review and fallout of Kings’ first-round exit dealt by the Canucks in April

- Interesting battle brewing between the pipes this season between Jonathan Quick and rookie Jonathan Bernier.

- Facts behind the Kings’ pursuit of Ilya Kovalchuk

- Likelihood Jack Johnson could be dealt and the Kings’ pursuit of a true #2 centreman

- Updates on talent-rich prospect field including; defenseman Thomas Hickey, Colton Teubert, Vyacheslav Voinov, Alec Martinez and Nicolas Deslauriers and yet another goaltender, Martin Jones.  As well as when we can expect to see forwards Brayden Schenn (who many believe could become the Kings’ #2 center much sooner than you’d think) and Russian winger Andrei Loktionov.

- As young and talented as the Kings were a year ago, four of their more-recent 1st round picks are in-line for solid NHL careers, but have yet to crack LA’s roster.

- The signing of former ‘Nucks blue liner Willie Mitchell

- Who’s the real leader in LA?  And an interesting behind the scenes story of an event that led to the Kings’ turnaround last season.

- Wayne Simmonds

- Matt Greene, Brad Richardson and more key Kings you may not know but should

- LA Kings fans and the atmosphere inside Staples Center

- Southern Cal vs Northern Cal rivalry

Again, check out Mayor’s work at MayorsManor.com.

TTMI~Radio returns Monday night, September 13th @ 8pm central at BlogTalkRadio.com/TheThirdManIn.
